FAO facilitates first meeting of Advisory Board of Indian Network for Fisheries and Animals Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR) | FAO in India | Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

27/02/2018

In consonance with the National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) forged a network of its leading laboratories to undertake surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial usage. The network was named as Indian Network for Fisheries and Animals Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR).  To guide and supervise this network, ICAR established an Advisory Board, with Deputy Director General (Fishery and Animal Health) as its chairperson. First meeting of the Advisory Board was held at New Delhi on 24 February 2018. FAO provided technical and financial support for the conduct of this meeting.

The Advisory Board reviewed the operational framework of INFAAR and urged all members to finalize standard operating procedures and initiate on priority activities as mandated to this network. Technical assistance from FAO in terms of training courses and capacity building was identified. FAO assured all possible support in taking forward work of INFAAR in context of India’s national action plan on AMR.
