PWD offers bungalow to Delhi CM Atishi

Synopsis

The PWD has offered the 6 Flag Staff Road Bungalow to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. This follows a controversy where Atishi’s belongings were removed, allegedly due to BJP pressure. The row involved claims that the bungalow was to be allotted to a BJP leader. Both parties engaged in a blame game over the issue.

The Public Works Department (PWD) on Friday officially offered the 6 Flag Staff Road Bungalow (CM house) to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

This comes after the CMO on Wednesday alleged that the residence was forcibly vacated at the behest of the BJP as Lt Governor V K Saxena wanted to allot it to a saffron party leader.

The belongings of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi were also removed from the residence, which was earlier occupied by her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal, the statement had said. There was plan to allot the bungalow to some important BJP leader, it claimed.

Earlier on Wednesday, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that officers were not allotting the bungalow to CM Atishi and her camp office there was also vacated.

The AAP on Thursday shared images showing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi signing files at her Kalkaji residence surrounded by packed cartons of her belongings.

The AAP, the BJP, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and the LG’s office are engaged in a bitter blame game over the occupation of the Flagstaff Road bungalow.

The party has claimed that the bungalow was the chief minister’s residence, which was properly vacated by Kejriwal and its keys were later handed over to his successor Atishi by PWD officials.

The BJP, on the other hand, accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led party of indulging in “drama” and playing the “victim card” over the Flagstaff Road bungalow row to gain sympathy.

Contrary to what the AAP is trying to project, the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow is not the official residence of the Delhi chief minister, said Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.

“It is like other government bungalows where Arvind Kejriwal lived as the chief minister,” Sachdeva said as he challenged the AAP government to prove that the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow in the Civil Lines area was “earmarked” as the official residence of the chief minister.

“We have no objections if Atishi wants to live there. But it must be done in accordance with the rules,” Sachdeva said.

Accusing Atishi of playing the “victim card”, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said, “The photos of Atishi working amid empty boxes is the Aam Aadmi Party’s new drama.”

Gupta, on Thursday visited the AB-17 bungalow on Mathura Road, which allotted to Atishi last year after she became a minister, said, “She has a bungalow allotted in her name on Mathura Road that was earlier used by Sheila Dikshit for 10 years when she was the chief minister of Delhi.”
