Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan: Flood-like situation in Jaipur, alerts sounded in multiple districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for several districts across Rajasthan, forecasting varying levels of rainfall over the next few days. This alert comes as the state continues to experience heavy rainfall, which has already led to a flood-like situation in parts of Jaipur and other districts.

According to the latest update, intermittent rainfall has made life difficult for residents in multiple regions, including the state capital, Jaipur, where continuous downpours have inundated several areas. The situation in Jaipur is particularly severe, with low-lying areas submerged and traffic movement disrupted. The relentless rains have caused waterlogging in many parts of the city, raising concerns among the local administration.

In Alwar district, the heavy rain has resulted in rivers swelling to dangerous levels. Sariska, known for its tiger reserve, has seen rivers that had run dry for years come back to life. This has brought relief to some but also heightened the risk of flash floods in the area.

The department has issued an orange alert for districts including Bikaner, Churu, Nagaur, Ajmer, Bundi, Jodhpur, Pali, and Jaisalmer. These areas are expected to witness intermittent light to moderate rainfall, with the possibility of heavy showers at isolated locations. The orange alert indicates that residents should be prepared for sudden weather changes, which could lead to hazardous conditions.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been sounded for Jaipur, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Sawai Madhopur, Sriganganagar, Rajsamand, Sikar, Pratapgarh, Jalore, Sirohi, Bharatpur, Barmer, Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Udaipur, Bundi, Jhalawar, and Baran districts. The yellow alert suggests that these regions could experience light to moderate rainfall, with localised impacts.

Weather experts have indicated that heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan is expected to ease between August 17 and 18. However, this may be a temporary reprieve, as heavy rain is forecasted to resume in the region on August 22. The department has also warned of moderate to heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in parts of western Rajasthan, particularly in the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions, over the next three to four days. Udaipur division may see light to moderate rainfall during this period.

The state administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged residents to take necessary precautions. With water levels rising and more rain on the horizon, the coming days will be critical in determining the extent of the impact across the state.
