iPhone shipments surge 40% y-o-y in May in China, driven by price cuts

Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), shows that in May, iPhone shipments in China increased by 40% year-on-year, continuing April’s rebound momentum. CAICT announced that the shipment volume of foreign branded phones in China for May increased from 3.603 million units last year to 5.028 million units this year, a rise of 1.425 million units. Despite not being mentioned by name, the increase in shipments is largely due to Apple’s performance, as the company dominates the foreign brand phone market in China. The iPhone has seen multiple price cuts in the domestic market this year, with prices dropping to historical lows during the recent 618 shopping festival, reaching discounts of up to RMB 2,350 ($324).
