A senior supervisory committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) conducted a full-day inspection at the Dr R.N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital on Wednesday, to inspect hospital operations and patient care.
The visit, led by Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Public Health) Sharad Ughade, included a detailed review of healthcare services, patient facilities, and sanitation measures across various departments. The three-member committee also interacted with medical faculty, departmental heads, and hospital officials to assess ongoing issues and administrative progress.
Formed under the guidance of Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs), the committee comprises Ughade, Dr Neelam Andrade (Director of Medical Education and Major Hospitals) and Dr Shailesh Mohite, Dean of Nair Hospital and former Dean of Cooper Hospital.
The committee has been tasked with continuous oversight of hospital conditions and ensuring the timely resolution of administrative delays. Officials say that direct involvement by the members has helped stabilise hospital functioning in recent weeks.
During the visit, the committee evaluated critical services such as patient registration, medication availability, and emergency care. According to patients and relatives, these services have now largely returned to normal. They also noted marked improvements in cleanliness, with rodent activity reportedly under full control.
Officials stated that further recommendations will be issued to hospital staff to ensure sustained improvements in service delivery and public health infrastructure.
