Senior officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai traffic police and railway authorities held a joint meeting on Tuesday to review the progress of key flyover reconstruction of the ongoing projects in the city, an official statement said.
It said that BMC`s Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar directed that all flyover works be completed within the set deadlines and warned officials to ensure there are no further delays. The meeting was also attended by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare and top engineers from BMC and the railways.
Bangar said that after the successful completion of important flyovers like the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge, Sindoor (Carnac) Bridge, and Vikhroli Flyover, the focus must now shift to speeding up work on other critical bridges.
The bridges include — Sion Flyover, Bellasis Road Flyover, Vidyavihar Flyover and Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Bridge.
BMC also shared the deadline and project details –
– Sion Flyover: Work is expected to be completed by May 31, 2026. The pedestrian bridge on the south side, being built by the Railways, was delayed but is now promised to finish by October 31, 2025.
– Bellasis Road Flyover: Located near Mumbai Central, this bridge is being built jointly by BMC and Western Railways. Girder launching was completed in August. BMC aims to finish the project six months before deadline, by December 31, 2025.
– Vidyavihar Flyover: Eastern side works are expected to finish by December 31, 2025. For the western side, Project-Affected Persons (PAPs) will be relocated within 15 days. The full bridge is planned to be ready by May 31, 2026.
– Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Bridge: A landmark bridge with a 70-metre pylon is under construction. The pylon will be ready by January 2026, and all related works, including approach roads, should be done by November 30, 2026.
