Bullet train project: Station in Thane to connect with train, metro lines

Mumbai

A bullet train station in Maharashtra`s Thane district will connect train and metro lines, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told officials on Monday.

Shinde has directed the officials that Thane and Kopar railway stations, along with the Taloja Metro, should be connected to the upcoming Mhatardi Bullet Train Station in Thane district, an official statement said.

It said that the new bullet train station is being developed near Diva in Mhatardi as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project. The station is expected to become an integrated transport hub in the future, connecting bullet trains, suburban trains, metro services, highways, and buses.

A high-level meeting was held at the MSRDC office, attended by Shinde’s Principal Secretary Naveen Sona, senior officials from MahaRail and the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL).

MahaRail made a detailed presentation showing how the Mhatardi Bullet Train Station can be linked to Thane Railway Station, Kopar Railway Station, Taloja Metro Station (in Navi Mumbai).

Shinde asked NHSRCL to examine the feasibility of this integration and implement it through the high-speed rail project. The NHSRCL responded positively and has agreed to forward the proposal to the Ministry of Railways.

If the integration goes ahead, commuters from Thane, Kopar, and Taloja will have direct and convenient access to the bullet train services via connected rail and metro routes. This could significantly reduce travel times and improve public transport connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
