In his letter, Fadnavis expressed deep concern over the impact of continuous heavy rainfall and flooding across 31 districts, which has caused extensive damage to agricultural land and severely disrupted the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers. He highlighted that the situation has particularly hit farmers who were already grappling with the aftermath of previous crop losses.
“The relentless rainfall has led to widespread crop damage across vast areas of farmland, raising serious concerns for the farming community,” CM Fadnavis wrote.
He added that despite efforts to provide interim relief, the ongoing disaster has compounded the challenges faced by rural communities.
The state government has already sanctioned Rs 2,215 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to provide immediate aid. However, with the damage now affecting over 50 lakh hectares of agricultural land, the chief minister has requested maximum possible support from the NDRF to ensure timely relief and rehabilitation.
With the kharif season still underway and rainfall persisting in several districts, the CM stressed the urgent need for central assistance to help restore agricultural activities and support the affected population.
790 rescued in Solapur floods by local administration and army team
In the wake of severe flooding caused by torrential rains from September 21 to 23, several villages in Solapur District, particularly in Madha Taluka, were left inundated and in urgent need of assistance.
Responding to a call from the NDRF and local administration, a team from the RESQ Charitable Trust-Sahyadri Vanyajeev Rakshanarth Samajik Sanstha (SVRSS), working in close coordination with the Indian Army, the tehsildar, and the local MLA, launched large-scale rescue operations to safeguard human lives and animals stranded by the floodwaters.
The operations commenced at dawn on Tuesday. Over the course of the mission, approximately 790 citizens were successfully evacuated to safe locations. Among those rescued were vulnerable individuals, including a three-week-old infant, elderly citizens, and people suffering from chronic illnesses. Importantly, no human lives were lost during these floods.
