Eyewitnesses share chilling scenes from crash site with mid-day

Mumbai

Ordinary people showed extraordinary responsibility, compassion and humanity as they helped authorities extricate bodies at the crash site. Deepak Bhadoria and Akash Shani told mid-day that the horrors are beyond comprehension.

The duo said, “We saw bodies without legs, some without hands.” Bhadoria gave context, “We were drinking tea at a small stall, when we suddenly heard a deafening blast. We saw smoke curling up from a place. We ran towards the site and saw a plane that had crashed into a building. Authorised personnel from different agencies were trying to extricate the bodies. We helped bring out at least eight bodies.”

Shani added, “I saw a huge blaze, smoke and several completely charred bodies. When we were removing the bodies, I tried to bring out one, and then realised I only had a hand with me! Sometimes I was left holding only a leg from a body. Some bodies we transported on a bike to a nearby ambulance.”

Others at the rescue site, like Hardik Goswami and Jaydeepsinh Zala, said, “When we learnt of the crash, we rushed to help the police. The scale of the disaster was chilling; most bodies were completely burned. However, we decided we should not hesitate when it comes to humanitarian work, and we helped in extricating at least 10 to 12 bodies.”
