MHADA steps in, will continue to call the shots in SVP Nagar

Mumbai

Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has clarified that the redevelopment of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, one of the largest MHADA colonies in Andheri West, that houses 2666 families, will be undertaken exclusively through MHADA’s construction and development (C&D) agency.

Responding to reports of private developers offering standalone redevelopment proposals to individual societies, MHADA vice president  Sanjeev Jaiswal stated that as per the cabinet’s decision, the project will be executed through C&D agency  and individual proposals will not be sanctioned.

This move will ensure that planning will be done by MHADA and therefore community spaces like parks, schools, community centres and malls are provided.

The authority’s clarification comes after the recent cabinet decision regarding the redevelopment of SVP Nagar, amid reports of private developers approaching individual MHADA societies.

A local resident said, “Some private developers have been approaching individual societies even after the cabinet decision news about developing the entire SVP Nagar layout through C&D.”

However, Jaiswal said no individual proposals would be sanctioned, as “the proposal has been approved by the cabinet for C&D agency through MHADA”.
