Mumbai: Over 1000 cops to be deployed for Global Fintech Fest in BKC

Mumbai

With the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2025 set to be held at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) from October 7 to 9, the Mumbai Police will deploy over 1000 personnel, including more than 100 traffic policemen, to manage the expected footfall of 35,000 delegates, senior officials confirmed.

Despite the anticipated crowd and pressure on vehicular movement, no traffic diversions will be enforced in the area, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters) Dipali Dhate told mid-day. “We have planned for intensive on-ground regulation without diversions,” she said.

Security will be further heightened as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is likely to drop by at the GFF venue on October 8 during his Mumbai trip. Police sources said that additional layers of security will be in place during his visit, and the deployment will include both police personnel and private security teams.

To handle traffic movement across the event days, a total of 100 traffic constables, including 55 from the BKC traffic division, will be stationed at 37 key traffic points across BKC. Officers will be deployed at each location from 7 am to 9 pm for all three days.

A senior official told this newspaper, “Those who do not have essential work in the area should consider avoiding the BKC stretch during peak hours to reduce unnecessary congestion.” Manoj Shinde, traffic inspector, BKC division, confirmed that apart from the regular BKC traffic staff, additional forces would also be deployed.

“We have prepared a full-fledged movement regulation plan across all major entry-and-exit points,” he said. In view of the large-scale deployment and high-profile visits, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti chaired a high-level meeting on Monday with all senior officers.

The meeting focused on both event security planning and traffic coordination for Starmer’s visit as well as other anticipated VIP movements, including a possible visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Although traffic diversions were initially considered, the idea was later scrapped after the authorities took into account the inconvenience such changes might cause to regular office-goers, motorists and residents, a senior officer added.
