The Bhoiwada Police in Dadar have cracked a high-value theft case and arrested three men from Rajasthan who allegedly stole gold ornaments and cash worth over Rs 4 crore from a jewellery shop in Mumbai`s Parel earlier this month.
The incident came to light on the morning of September 9, when the owner of Dalichand Jewellers, located in Parel East, found that a huge quantity of jewellery and cash had gone missing. During the panchnama, police found that a man was seen leaving the shop around 4 pm with a large bag.
Mumbai Police`s investigations revealed that the man seen leaving the shop was one of the employees, Jeetu Navaram Chaudhary (23). The complainant said that the safe inside the shop had Rs. 3.53 lakh cash and around 4 kg of gold worth Rs. 4.07 crore.
A case was registered at Bhoiwada Police Station, and given the scale of the crime, multiple teams were formed. While the Bhoiwada Police team tracked leads on the ground, Crime Branch Unit 4 simultaneously launched a parallel probe. Using technical surveillance and informant networks, the police traced Chaudhary to his village in the Pali district of Rajasthan.
He was arrested along with two alleged accomplices, Kamlesh Wagharam Chaudhary (26) and Bharatkumar Ottaram Chaudhary (38), both from Kudala village of the same district.
The police said that nearly 70 per cent of the booty has been recovered from the accused, and efforts are on to seize the remaining valuables. The trio has been brought to Mumbai and booked under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Chaudhary was employed as a salesman at Dalichand Jewellers on the recommendation of his father, Lalchand, who works at a neighbouring jewellery shop. Police said Chaudhary would stay overnight at the store, sleeping in the loft after work, making him one of the most trusted employees by the owners.
All the accused are currently remanded in police custody.
