Speeding Lamborghini crashes on Mumbai coastal road; driver escapes unhurt

Mumbai

A high-speed crash involving a luxury sports car shocked commuters on Mumbai coastal road on Sunday morning, when a Lamborghini skidded out of control and slammed into a divider. While the car’s front end was left mangled in the accident, the driver miraculously escaped without injury.

The incident occurred at around 9.30 am on the southbound carriageway of the Mumbai coastal road. The stretch was reportedly slick and slippery due to an early morning downpour, creating treacherous driving conditions. According to reports, the saffron-colored Lamborghini was moving at an unusually high speed before the driver lost control.

A dramatic video of the crash was shared on social media by Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond Group, who is also an avid car enthusiast. The footage shows the Lamborghini veering sharply at high speed, skidding sideways, and colliding with the divider. Within minutes of being uploaded, the clip went viral on social media, igniting conversations around road safety, reckless driving, and the performance of high-end supercars on Indian roads.

“Another day, another Lamborghini mishap. This time on Mumbai coastal road. Do these cars even have traction? From catching fire to losing grip — what’s going on with Lamborghini?” Singhania remarked in his post, hinting at the series of incidents involving the Italian brand in recent years. His comments added fuel to the ongoing debate about whether supercars are suitable for Mumbai’s traffic and weather conditions.

Meanwhile, Worli police have taken a serious view of the matter. They said that an FIR has been registered against the driver of the Lamborghini under charges of rash and negligent driving. Authorities said the driver not only endangered his own life but also posed a risk to other commuters on the newly opened arterial road. The police noted that the reckless act also risked causing significant damage to the luxury car, as per reports.

The investigation is currently underway, with police expected to scrutinise CCTV footage and question the driver to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the crash.

The accident has once again highlighted growing concerns over rash driving on Mumbai’s roads, particularly when it involves high-performance luxury cars that may not be suited to monsoon-hit, slippery stretches.
