The 19th round of military talks between India and China is underway at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side in Eastern Ladakh. For the fresh round of talks, the Indian delegation is headed by 14th Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Rashim Bali.
During the course of talks, which are likely to continue for two days, India is hopeful for the resolution of the standoff at the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh.
In the earlier negotiations, both countries agreed to disengage from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks. The 18th round of the military dialogue took place in April this year, when the Indian side strongly pressed for resolving the lingering issues in Depsang and Demchok areas. The 19th round of talks comes just a week before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping come face-to-face at the BRICS Summit in South Africa. National security adviser Ajit Doval and foreign minister S Jaishankar also met the new Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, recently to discuss aspects of the border issues and bilateral relationship.
