The government has said that around 25 crore people have been brought out from multi-dimensional poverty in the pursuit of ‘Sabka Saath’ in the last 10 years. This was stated by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting interim Budget 2024-25 in the new Parliament on Thursday.

The Finance Minister said due to ‘Direct Benefit Transfer’ scheme, 2.7 lakh crore rupees have been saved out of 34 lakh crore rupees by using PM-Jan Dhan accounts. She added that this is made possible through avoidance of leakages which was prevalent earlier.

Citing examples of the schemes that have empowered the poor, Ms Sitharaman said, PM-SVANidhi has provided credit assistance to 78 lakh street vendors. From that total, 2.3 lakh have received credit for the third time.

Citing PM-JANMAN Yojana as a prime example of empowerment, the Union Finance Minister said that the scheme reaches out to the particularly vulnerable tribal groups, who have remained outside the realm of development so far.

Finance Minister stated that the Government’s efforts are now getting synergised with energy and passion of empowered people which is truly elevating them from poverty.
