BJP Demands Answers on Sandeshkhali Violence, Alleges TMC Involvement

Last Updated: Feb 12, 2024

The BJP today said that violence at Sandeshkhali in West Bengal is deeply shameful and has demanded answers from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani alleged that TMC workers are implicated in the incident of sexual assault at Sandeshkhali. Ms Irani added that by enacting the Section 144 of the CrPC, the West Bengal government is suppressing the media and women on speaking out.

She alleged that law and order has deteriorated in Sandeshkhali where ED officers were also attacked a few weeks ago. Ms Irani has demanded swift action from the Mamta Banarjee-led government over the incident and called for the arrest of former TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan.
