Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad has become the first foreign leader to visit the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Thursday (08th February 2024). Deputy Prime Minister Prasad along with a six-member delegation had darshan of Shri Ram Lalla today. Later speaking to the media, Mr Prasad said that the temple of Shri Ram Lalla will further strengthen the relations between Fiji and India.  He said that Fiji’s administration, justice and policy-making are also inspired by the life of Lord Ram. He also stated that there is a holiday in Fiji on the day of the Diwali festival.

Mr Prasad said that among the Indians who were taken to Fiji, Mauritius, Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname under the Adventure System during the British period, the largest number were from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He said that these people had also taken Ramayana and Geeta with them and even today small Ramayana groups organise Ramayana recitations at various places. Mr Prasad said that Fiji is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, but despite this, the people there celebrate Diwali with great pomp and show to mark the return of Lord Ram after 14 years of exile.
