India’s Commitment to Conservation Highlighted, Tamil Nadu Takes Initiatives for Coastal Wetland Protection

The importance of wetlands in protecting the biological diversity and the environment along with countless species of flora and fauna have become vital around the globe. Every year the 2nd of February is celebrated as World Wetlands Day to adhere to the Convention on the Wetlands is the intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for conservation. They are real climate champions as they protect the land and air from pollution. India is a peninsular nation bestowed with wetlands which provide a balance of atmosphere and prevent floods.

The Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Environment Climate Change and Forests said that Tamilnadu has been taking several initiatives to protect the coastal wetlands.
