BJP President J P Nadda released a stamp commemorating 200 years of Indian origin Tamils in Sri Lanka. Addressing an event on this occasion in New Delhi on Saturday, Mr. Nadda said it is a matter of great happiness that one is remembering the year 1823 and commemorating it with the stamp of Indian-origin Tamils, who had gone to Sri Lanka 200 years ago. He said the Britishers encouraged the migration of Indian Tamil people to Sri Lanka as it served their purpose of augmenting economic activities by making the migrated people work in fields there. He added that the migrated Indian-origin Tamils struggled for years and faced hardships of human dignity, health, and livelihood. Mr. Nadda said, now one should be happy and optimistic, but must not forget the history and pain borne by the forefathers.

The BJP Chief said, that in 2014, when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, India began a new optimistic journey. He also said Mr. Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Jaffna in 2017 and promised them Pucca Houses.
