The Lok Sabha today resumed discussion on Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address to joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to reply to the discussion this evening. Participating in the discussion, Shrirang Appa Barne of Shiv Sena highlighted several achievements of the Government. He lauded the Government for women-oriented development initiatives including reservation for them in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. The Shiv Sena MP listed initiatives including Jandhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana and Kisan Samman Nidhi saying the last ten years of the Narendra Modi Government has been devoted to the welfare of people. Dr Satyapal Singh of BJP said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of Ram Rajya for his Governance. He accused Congress of dividing the country on religious and caste lines and mocking the Sanatan Dharma. Alok Kumar Suman of Janata Dal (United) also lauded the government for successfully organising the G20 Summit.
On the other hand, Congress MP Benny Behanan alleged that the country is heading towards a theocracy by mixing religion with politics. Shatabdi Roy of Trinamool Congress questioned the Government’s claim that 25 crore people came out of poverty in the last nine years. She alleged that the Government claims that 16 AIIMS have been established in the last ten years but none of them are fully functional.
