Lok Sabha takes up Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 for consideration and passage

Lok Sabha has taken up the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2024 for consideration and passing. Moving the Bill, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bharati Pravin Pawar said, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 is intended to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes regarding Andhra Pradesh to include Bondo Porja, Khond Porja and Konda Savaras communities in the list of ST. While the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2024 proposes to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes regarding Odisha. Under it, four communities of primitive tribes – Pauri Bhuyan, Chuktia Bhunjia, Bondo and Mankidia and 46 others who have not been included in the ST list due to phonetic variations or spelling mistakes will be the part of ST list.

       

Participating in the discussion, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, the Government is committed to the protection of tribal and upliftment of the poor. He hit out at the Congress for not taking steps to bring these tribes to the ST list. Mr Pradhan said, the Government has come out with the PM-JANMAN scheme, with a budgetary allocation of 24 thousand crore rupees for the Tribal community. The discussion is underway.
