Government has no proposal to increase the tax benefit accorded for preventive health check-ups in the country under Section 80D of Income Tax Act. The current benefit is up to rupees 5000 under this section.
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhry said that it has been the stated policy of the Government to simplify the Income-tax Act, 1961 by removing exemptions and incentives while at the same time reducing the rates of taxes.
