Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr virendra Kumar today virtually inaugurated forty-one addiction treatment facilities. The programme aims to curb the menace of drug demand. Speaking on the ocassion in New Delhi, Dr. Kumar said that drug addiction is a big question in front of the country. He added, drug habit is causing huge loss to the family of the youth which is not a positive aspect for the interest of the country. Expressing concern, the Minister stressed that even in the educational institutions, talented students are increasingly becoming victims of drug addiction. Dr. Kumar said that the government’s aim is to provide the right direction to the positive energy of young people.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Dr. Virenda Kumar said, opening of these 41 Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) will help in freeing the youth from drug addiction.
Under the Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyan, the government is establishing ATFs in the Government hospitals and District De-addiction Centres across the country. The Ministry has launched the ATF program and the same is being coordinated nationally by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi. It has identified 125 districts in the country for establishing ATFs. The program is being scaled-up and the ministry is consulting various state governments and district administrations for identifying hospitals for establishing ATFs. Last year, 25 ATFs were dedicated by the Minister in the month of February.
