Supreme Court, Presided by CJI D.Y Chandrachud stayed all proceedings before Calcutta High Court in West Bengal fake certificate scam

In a special sitting, the Supreme Court, Presided by Chief Justice D.Y Chandrachud stayed all proceedings before the Calcutta High Court in the West Bengal fake certificate scam today. The Apex Court also issued notice to the State government and others. The case has been scheduled for further hearing on the 29th of January.

Following a dispute surrounding several opposing orders issued by the Calcutta High Court’s division bench and single-judge bench, the top court took suo moto cognizance. In the case of fake caste certificates being issued to secure medical seats in West Bengal, Justice Gangopadhyay had passed an order directing the West Bengal Police to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. On the same day, the Advocate General approached a division bench headed by Justice Soumen Sen, resulting in a stay on the single Judge’s order. Later, Justice Gangopadhyay accused Justice Soumen Sen, of acting for a political party in West Bengal.
