Thane, Maharashtra: In a shocking incident from Maharashtra’s Thane district, a woman, along with her brother and four relatives, has been accused of kidnapping her estranged husband over a divorce settlement dispute. The police have registered a case after the man managed to escape and file a complaint, as reported by news agency PTI.

Details of the incident

According to police reports, the 44-year-old victim, a resident of Punjabi Colony in Ulhasnagar, was abducted on June 20 while he was out shopping. The accused asked him to increase the divorce settlement amount to ₹15 lakh or ₹20 lakh. When he expressed his inability to pay the amount, they allegedly forced him into a vehicle and took him to an abandoned house.

The victim was held captive in the house until he found an opportunity to escape on September 28. After escaping, he approached the police station to report the incident and lodge a formal complaint against his estranged wife and her accomplices.

 FIR lodged, police investigation underway

Following the victim’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR against the estranged wife, her brother, and four other relatives involved in the abduction.

The charges filed include kidnapping for ransom under Section 140(2), criminal intimidation under Section 351(2), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace under Section 352, voluntarily causing hurt under Section 115(2), and common intention under Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, reported PTI.
