KRISHNAGIRI: Three tuskers were spotted near Jawalagiri
village
located near
Hosur
on Saturday.
A forest range official said, “Three tuskers were first seen bathing at a lake in Pallapalli village on Saturday. We went to the village to monitor its
movement
.”
On Sunday the
elephants
raided standing
crops
in Kandaganapalli, and Alahalli villages in the Denkanikottai forest range.
Forest personnel attempted to chase them towards the forest by bursting crackers and using tom-toms. “However, they keep straying into
agricultural lands
,” the official added.
Meanwhile, villagers and farmers have demanded that
officials
drive the elephants back into the forest and prevent them from further damaging their crops. They have also demanded adequate compensation for the damaged crops.
Forest officials, revenue officials, and police are monitoring the tuskers’ movements.
Forest officials have warned villagers residing closer to the reserve forests to stay indoors during night and early hours of the morning.
