The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has renewed its alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ahead of next year’s Tamil Nadu assembly elections. This is their third tie-up, after similar arrangements in 1998 and 2014. The political dynamics, however, have shifted with the entry of superstar Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which could split the DMK’s vote. Still, the key question is whether AIADMK can provide the ballast BJP needs to wrest power from the DMK, writes political analyst K V Prasad.
