Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Parshottam Rupala will participate in the National Conference on Promotion of Sea-weed Cultivation on today at Koteshwar (Kori Creek), Kutch, Gujarat. The Union Minister will also interact with the beneficiaries and distribute the assets to the identified beneficiaries. The Department of Fisheries is organizing this National Conference to strengthen and develop the Sea-weed farming sector.
Around 300 participants are expected to participate in the event, including policymakers, central and state fisheries officials, researchers, sea-weed farmers, representatives of local gram panchayats, Self Help Groups and Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) /CS.
Seaweed is a marine algae that is traditionally cultivated worldwide for food and medicinal use. With its ability to sink carbon and sustain marine biodiversity – it is now gaining importance as a solution to climate change mitigation. It is rich in minerals, iodine, and vitamins, and can be easily grown without the need for soil and fertilizers.
