India will have a strong presence at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, tonight with javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, the men’s relay team, and Parul Chaudhary competing.

Neeraj will be joined in the medal round by DP Manu and Kishore Jena, marking the first time that three Indians have qualified.

The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi, and Rajesh Ramesh broke the Asian record in a stunning race, clocking 2 minutes, 59.05 seconds to qualify for the World Championships for the first time.

Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women’s 3000-metre steeplechase final. She achieved a new personal best of 9:24.29 in Heat 2 to finish fifth and book a spot in the final.

She became the first Indian since Lalita Babar to qualify for the World Championship final. Lalita had finished 8th in the final at the 2015 World Athletics Championships.

The javelin throw event will begin at 11:45 PM IST, with Neeraj, Manu, and Jena in action. Parul Chaudhary’s steeplechase final will begin at 12:35 AM IST midnight tonight, and the men’s relay final will take place at 1:07 AM IST.
