Deals: Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6 and Motorola razr+ 2024, early Prime Day deals

Samsung unveiled its next generation foldables this week and they are set to become available on July 24. However, Motorola has chosen that exact same date to launch its new razrs.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is basically without competition – for now, at least. Google and OnePlus are bound to launch new horizontal foldables later this year. The Z Fold6 and the Z Flip6 are the first foldables to have particle protection. It’s just an IP48 rating, so only coarser particles are repelled (but dust can still get in). Still, with this and improvements to the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and Armor Aluminum, these should be the most durable foldables yet.

And they will receive 7 years of software support – both OS updates and security patches – so if you invest in one now, you might not need a new device until 2031. Oh, and Samsung refined the aspect ratios on both Galaxy Z Fold6 screens and made the phone thinner (when folded) and lighter. These things have a notable positive impact on in-hand feel. For more, check out our hands-on review.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is available on Samsung.com, Amazon and other retailers. The price on Samsung.com is lower to start with and there is enhanced trade-in credit up to $1,200. But if you don’t want to part with an old device, Amazon puts a free $300 gift card in the Z Fold6 package, making its effective price lower than what Samsung is charging.

The situation with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is similar – it’s $50 less on Samsung.com and you can reduce that further with up to $650 in enhanced trade-in credit. However, Amazon adds a $200 gift card, so the price without trade-in is lower.

Note that these are pre-orders, Samsung’s new gadgets arrive on July 24. But during the pre-order period, you get a free storage upgrade, so both Z phones start with 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage.

Hold on, though. The Motorola razr+ 2024 is down to $900 already, though this is for half the storage and a weaker Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset (vs. 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy). And the Z Flip6 price of $1,100 minus $200 gift card matches the razr. The Moto has a larger cover display (4” 417ppi, 165Hz vs. 3.4” 306ppi, 60Hz). Both have 4,000mAh batteries, but the Moto is faster to charge over USB-C (45W vs. 25W), wireless charging is the same at 15W. Finally, the Z Flip6 has an ultra wide camera, but the razr+ has a 50MP 2x portrait cam. Check out our review for our thoughts on whether this is a good trade-off.

Then there’s the Motorola razr 2024. This one is $700 for an 8/256GB unit. It’s cheaper, but not massively so, especially considering that this phone uses a Dimensity 7300X instead of a flagship chipset. The cover display isn’t as nice as on the plus, but at 3.6” 413ppi 90Hz, it’s still better than what the Galaxy has. The battery is slightly larger at 4,200mAh with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. And this one does have an ultra wide camera (13MP), while zooming in is left to the 50MP main camera.

We mentioned these things already, but they bear repeating – the Galaxy Z phones have longer software support and particle protection (the Moto razrs are only rated IPX8 for water resistance).

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is Samsung’s attempt to take down the Apple Watch Ultra. With a water resistance rating of 100m, a new 3nm chipset, a large battery and blood pressure monitoring, this watch has it all (including a distinctive design, love it or hate it).

The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 also uses the Exynos W1000 3nm chipset and the new BioActive Sensor can measure your AGEs Index to determine your biological age. This one comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, in Bluetooth and 4G variants. There’s no rotating bezel here, though. Note that Samsung is currently running a promotion and the prices are lower than on Amazon.

Samsung completely redesigned its TWS buds. They now have “blades” for better physical controls (and some lighting on the Pro models). The Galaxy Buds3 Pro have 2-way speakers and UWB, while the Buds3 are cheaper while still offering ANC and AI features.

Amazon is running early Prime Day offers with discounts of up to 50% on its own products. You can grab an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K for just $25, but we’d go with the 4K Max for $10 more. It has a more powerful processor and faster Wi-Fi 6E. Both support Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streaming (note that the price is going up to $20/month in September).

The Amazon Fire Max 11 also supports game streaming – anything that runs on Android, not just Xbox. With a good quality 11” IPS LCD and stereo speakers, this is great at streaming movies too and it can handle all the web browsing and social media scrolling. The base model is down to $140, but we’d pay the extra $20 for more storage (there is a microSD slot too) and to remove the lockscreen ads.

If your idea of relaxing involves reading a good book instead of gaming or binging House of the Dragon, the Amazon Kindle Scribe is the one to go for. The 10.2” display is better for reading content that can’t be reformatted like PDFs and it comes with a stylus bundled in for taking notes and sketching ideas.
