Congress ignored community in council polls in Maharashtra: Muslim leaders

MUMBAI: Days ahead of the MLC polls, a section of Muslim leaders has slammed the Congress and its MVA allies for not nominating a single Muslim. This will be perhaps the first time that the upper house will be without a Muslim member. Many had hoped that one among Wajahat Mirza, Arif Naseem Khan and Muzaffar Hussain would get nominated.Shoaib Khatib, trustee of Juma Masjid of Bombay Trust, is angry at Congress for completely ignoring Muslims.”The so-called secular parties and their partners have once again shown their true colours. For them, Muslims are just voters and do not deserve to share power. Muslims must stop voting them en bloc,” said Khatib, who had fought this year’s Lok Sabha election from Mumbai South. State Congress VP Zakir Ahmed said, “for the first time there is no Muslim in the upper house.”
