Hyderabad: The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited is all set to print QR codes on the electricity bills from next month for the convenience of customers. This comes after reports of consumers facing issues with bill payments via the government website. Consumers will be able to pay their electricity bills by scanning the QR code with their mobile phones. Currently, bills can be paid through the company’s website, mobile app, Billdesk, Paytm, TA Wallet, TG/AP Online and MeeSeva. To further facilitate consumer convenience, the company arranged a meeting with bankers, officials said. Ever since TGSPDCL declared that power bills cannot be paid through UPI apps, many people have complained about them not being able to pay their electricity bills online.A user on X said “TGSPDCL, the sleeping company, didn’t register itself with BBPS which is based on NPCI platform so that anyone can pay any bill from anywhere in India. Its been years since the platform is live and almost 90% of India’s electricity boards are registered with it.”Power officials said that due to RBI regulations, some third-party apps may not support direct bill payment, but this has not affected the current bill collections. Officials stated that nearly 1.2 lakh consumers paid their bills by 10 am on Friday.
