US Embassy Issues New Alert Ahead of Planned Protests

The United States Embassy on Monday issued a travel advisory and alert to its citizens in Kenya over planned demonstrations on Tuesday and Thursday.In the alert, the Embassy warned of demonstrations in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and other major cities.”Calls for protests on Tuesdays and Thursdays continue, in particular for demonstrations in central business districts across the country and road blockages of major thoroughfares,” read part of the alert.Additionally, the Embassy explained that although the protests were peaceful, there were chances of violence erupting. Demonstrations in Makueni County on July 2, 2024 Photo Musyi FM All Americans in the country were also informed of possible police checkpoints and traffic disruptions during the said days.The foreigners were advised to monitor local media for updates and to constantly assess travelling conditions before heading out.Americans were advised to avoid crowds, especially during the demonstrations.Additionally, US citizens in Kenyans were advised to keep their doors locked and the windows rolled up while in a vehicle to avoid any injuries in case violence erupts.The embassy also asked US citizens to always inform their friends and family of their safety whereabouts and safety.Conclusively, the embassy asked Americans in the country to review their personal security plans and always carry a copy of their US passport with a current Kenyan visa.All US citizens in the country who need assistance were advised to visit the US embassy in Nairobi or call via the designated call lines.This is the third travel advisory the embassy has issued in the last month after demonstrations in the country turned chaotic resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property.Other countries such as Russia, Finland, the UK, India, Canada and Australia among others also cautioned their citizens in the country to exercise caution over the current political climate.
