An elderly woman ended up bloodied and concussed when she was struck by a 4kg piece of metal while travelling on a Queensland highway.Robyn Droste, 76, had been sitting in the front passenger seat while being driven by her daughter Tanya on the Bruce Hwy at North Lakes, north of Brisbane, about 9.30am on Wednesday.The pair saw what they thought was a piece of clay pipe on the middle of the road when a white van “ran over it and flicked it up”, Tanya said.Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today “When it came up off the road, it hit the bonnet and (that) must have deflected it to the left hand side,” Robyn Droste said.“I didn’t see the object at all. All I heard was Tanya yell, ‘Far out’.“And the next thing I know — I must have been hit but I didn’t really feel it — but I looked down and I had blood all down my shirt.”The piece of metal caused significant damage to the car. Credit: Facebook/7NEWSShe felt that she had an egg-sized bump on her head, the “first egg I’ve had in my life”, Droste said.She was taken to hospital where she was treated for the wound to her head and concussion.She is recovering at home on Thursday.The chunk of debris, which the women describe as being a solid piece of metal weighing about 4kg, is yet to be identified.
