‘Show them’: Archie Gray reacts to Leeds United transfer news

Archie Gray left Leeds United in July and made his Tottenham Hotspur debut on Monday night against Leicester City.

Hours after taking to the Premier League stage, Tottenham’s new midfielder responded to Leeds losing yet another key player.

Georginio Rutter was pivotal to Daniel Farke’s side having so much success last season and that was proven by the fact that he supplied 15 assists and scored six goals during the regular Championship season.

But Leeds’ defeat to Southampton in the Championship play-off final has hurt them badly and probably a lot worse than fans imagined.

Did they think they would lose a key player after that Wembley final? Of course, but one at most, not three and no replacements in sight.

As mentioned above, Tottenham secured the transfer of Gray earlier on in the summer and Crysencio Summerville followed suit by joining West Ham United.

The latest to head for the exit door is Rutter leaving Leeds and joining Brighton and Hove Albion and it has broken Leeds’ hearts.

The Frenchman took to Instagram to send a message to the Leeds faithful and how it’s ‘hard for me to say goodbye’.

In the comments section of his IG post, Gray sent him a message and wished him well, alongside former right-back, Luke Ayling.

Georginio Rutter leaves Leeds United

“It’s hard for me to say goodbye, but the time has come for me to move on,” wrote Rutter. “When I joined Leeds, I knew I was becoming part of something special, but I didn’t realize how much this club would mean to me. Leeds United has been more than just a team for me – it’s been like a family that has supported and helped me grow.

“From day one, you, the fans, have always been there, cheering me on and showing me what it means to play for Leeds. You made me feel at home, and I will always remember that.

“My time here was full of hard work, great moments, and strong friendships. I’m leaving as a better player and a better person, and I’m really thankful for that. Even though I’m heading in a new direction, Leeds United will always be a part of who I am. I wish you all the best for the future and the challenges ahead. Thank you for everything, Leeds. I’ll never forget you. MOT.”

Gray responded to that message and wrote: “Good luck, my brother. Show them what you can do.” And Ayling added: “All the best to you, my friend. Keep that smile on your face and go smash it, brother.”

Daniel Farke’s future at Leeds United

It has been a summer transfer window to well and truly forget. The powers that be have very little time to change things around and lift the mood around the place.

What doesn’t help Farke is that he hasn’t started the new season very well and there is already immense pressure on his shoulders.

Bring in some new faces and start to win games, then the Leeds fans will quickly forget about who has departed their club this summer.

But if that doesn’t happen, then those exits will just linger and linger above the club’s head, and Farke will be gone quicker than he will know it.

David Moyes has been tipped to replace Farke if he leaves Leeds, with the former Manchester United coach recently leaving his post at West Ham United.
